Complete Open Water Diver Certification

Minimum 4 1/2 days

Approximately 12 hours of confined water training, 8 hours of classroom and 4 open water dives.

  Become a certified Scuba Diver!

Minimum Age: 10

Cost: $350.00 + PADI manual

Many places will tell you that they can certify you to become an Open Water Scuba Diver in only a couple of days, with the benefit that you are not spending your holiday in a scuba course. I don't believe in this type of attitude or fast tracking of a certification. Scuba is serious fun and if not trained properly can result in serious injury or death, get complete and competent training that will give you a solid foundation of skills and knowledge so you can safely enjoy some serious fun underwater!

Our complete open water certification timeline runs like this, but can change to your needs:

Evening or Day 1:

Meet and discuss your requirements and my requirements of the student and complete the course paperwork. The student is given the Open Water Diver Manual and the accompanying  DVD (player as well if your hotel or condo doesn't have one) for home study.

Day 2:

We meet at 9:00 am to review chapter 1 of the Open Water Diver Manual. After discussing the information and insuring that the student has an excellent understanding of the knowledge we head off on our first confined water (pool) session. After spending around 1 1/2 hours in the confined water, if  both student and instructor feel confident, we head off on our first open water dive to 35 feet. During this dive the student isn't required to demonstrate any skills, it's just a dive to gain comfort in the sea and an opportunity to confirm just how beautiful the underwater world really is! We finish up the day around 2:30. The student then needs to complete chapter 2 in the Open Water Diver Manual.

Day 3:

We meet at 9:00 am to review chapter 2 of the Open Water Diver Manual. After discussing the information and insuring that the student has an excellent understanding of the knowledge we head off on our second and third confined water (pool) sessions. We spend most of the day in the water reviewing skills and building confidence in our ability and with our equipment. We finish up the day around 3:00. The student then needs to complete chapter 3 in the Open Water Diver Manual.

Day 4:

We meet at 9:00 am to review chapter 3 and after discussing the information and insuring that the student has an excellent understanding of the knowledge we head off for dry land navigation work. At 11:30 we head out for our 4th confined water session and our second open water dive, where we will descend to 35 feet and the student will demonstrate the mastery of a few skills they learnt during our confined water sessions. After reviewing and logging our dive the day is finished around 3:00. The student then needs to complete chapters 4 and 5 in the Open Water Diver Manual during the evening.

Day 5:

We meet at 9:00 am to review chapters 4 and 5 and after discussing the information and insuring that the student has an excellent understanding of the knowledge we head off at 11:30 for our 5th confined water session and our third open water dive, where we will descend to 35 feet. During this dive the student will demonstrate the mastery of a few additional skills they learnt during our confined water sessions. Then it's back to the dock to sort out or equipment and plan our 4th open water dive. After an hour surface interval with newly assembled scuba units, we head out on our 4th open water dive. After our dive we do our debrief and log our dive and if everything went well, you are one small step from  your Open Water Scuba Certification!

If at anytime, I don't feel that a student is ready to progress on an open water dive, we will postpone the dive and spend more time in the confined water. Remember that when you are doing your open water dives, you need to show me that you have mastered the skills that we practiced in the confined water
